Glaucoma is the one of the leading cause of blindness and can effect people of all ages. Because the early stages of glaucoma do not have noticeable symptoms, people can have the condition without even knowing it. Many people do not realize they have a problem until they have lost a significant amount of their vision since the loss of vision can be slow and gradual.

The best defense against glaucoma is to have regular eye exams during which you are screened for glaucoma. At Heritage Optical, we can check the intraocular pressure in your eyes to detect glaucoma in its early stages, minimizing or possibly preventing nerve damage but early detection is key. There is no way to repair a damaged optic nerve but research is always being done and someday there may be a way to reverse the damage.
